Health Insurance

The wait can be long, the wait can be deadly. Taking control of your health management might be the best move you ever make.

What does it do?

Health Insurance provides funds for Hospital Treatment, Specialists, and Diagnostic Services without the need to go on long public waiting lists. Usually treatment or access to services can be provided in a fraction of the time required for the general public. Hospital treatment most often occurs in a Private Hospital. For many people Health Insurance is the reason they are still with us today, as without urgent treatment they would not have survived or recovered.

Why have it?

As our New Zealand population ages, funding for Health Care becomes more of a challenge for our Government. Even with massive health budgets, waiting lists for both Public Hospitals and Specialists remain long, with sometimes waits of up to a year or longer. During long extended waiting periods, illness often becomes more serious or even fatal. Health Insurance can fund access to treatment within weeks or even days. Health Insurance provides peace of mind when most needed.

Options

  • Cover just for Hospital Admission
  • Cover for both Hospital Admission plus Specialists
  • Cover for Dental Treatment
  • Cover for Optical costs
  • Varying Excess Options to keep premiums affordable
  • Some plans have upgraded Cancer funding
  • Some plans include a small Death benefit

Premiums

Health insurance premiums are based on: Age and Health history. It is generally a requirement that policy holders are Citizens or Residents of New Zealand. Premiums are based on the plan selected. The Excess selected has a significant bearing on the premium. Most people do not select the Dental and Optical options as these can be an expensive added cost. It is a general rule that existing health issues are not initially covered, but may be covered after a period of time.
